I understand the concept of HDMI cables, and how to connect a tv to a desktop system. However, I’m wondering if it is possible to set it up so that the HDTV is the one and only option for the desktops monitor.

If so, can anyone provide with me some details on how I would do this? Do I just connect the HDMI cables between the desktop and the TV? So when I turn the desktop on, does it automatically show up on the TV?

Yes, just connect a HDMI cable from the computer to the television. If the computer has no HDMI output but does have a DVI output, then use a DVI to HDMI cable. Set the HDTV’s input to that HDMI input and you should be good to go.
Only thing is that most graphics cards do not output digital audio on the HDMI cable, only video. So you will still need to connect speakers, or else a cable to connect audio to the television, most likely a 3.5mm headphone to stereo RCA cable.
