How do I prevent my HDTV from lagging when I play a video game?

When I play a video game on my HDTV, there is a dramatic delay. I usually play expert on Guitar Hero, yet I nearly fail songs on medium because of this. Is there a way that I can increase the response time of my tv?

      The response time is faster means nothing.

      The problem for guitar hero has calibrate lag feature at least my ps3 editions do iii and wt that should solve the problem for guitar hero at least my ps3 editions do iii and wt that should solve the problem for.
